NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF KOREA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Mr. So Se Pyong, the new Permanent Representative of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei A. Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to coming to Geneva, since 2008, Mr. So had been serving as Ambassador to Iran. He was an Ambassador within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2005 to 2008. This is Mr. So’s second posting to Geneva, as he served as Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Geneva from 2001 to 2005.

Mr. So began his diplomatic career as a staff member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1980. He was Vice-Consul in Karachi, Pakistan, from 1982 to 1988, serving as Consul there from 1993 to 1998. In between, from 1988 to 1993, he was Chief of Section at the Foreign Ministry and, from 1998 to 2001, served as Director of Legal Affairs.

Mr. So received his university degree in 1980, and has received several national honours and medals.

Born on 23 December 1950, Mr. So is married with children.
