NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF PHILIPPINES PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Evan P. Garcia, the new Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Garcia had been serving since 2007 as Assistant Secretary at the Office of the United Nations and other international organization at the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines. From 2006 to 2007, he was Special Assistant at the Office of the Secretary at the Department of Foreign Affairs.

A career diplomat, Mr. Garcia was based at the Embassy of the Philippines in Washington D.C. from 1997 to 2006, first as Political Officer and Consul, then as Head of the Political Section, and finally as Acting Deputy Chief of Mission from 2003 to 2006. Other foreign assignments include serving at the Embassy of the Philippines in Tokyo from 1986 to 1993, first as Economic Officer and Vice Consul and then as Head of the Economic Section and Consul. He has held myriad posts at the Department of Foreign Affairs since he joined it in 1982.

Born on 29 March 1958 in Saigon, Viet Nam, Mr. Garcia has a BS Foreign Service from the University of the Philippines (1974-1979) and a License in International Relations and Political Science from the Graduate Institute for International Studies in Geneva (1979 to 1981).
