TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

George Kaklikis, the new Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, since 2006, Mr. Kaklikis had been serving as Director of the Directorate for Turkey at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. From 2002 until that time, he was Ambassador of Greece to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague.

Mr. Kaklikis began his diplomatic career in 1977 as an attaché at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Department of Europe and the Americas. He served for several years at the Greek Embassy in Turkey, rising to the post of First Counsellor in 1992. In 1995, Mr. Kiklikis was made Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President of the Republic and in 1999 he became the Head of the Liaison Office to the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

Mr. Kaklikis studied at the Faculty of Law at the University of Athens and at the Criminology School of the University of Liège in Belgium. Born on 19 April 1948 in Athens, Mr. Kaklikis is married.
