NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ARMENIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Charles Aznavour, the new Permanent Representative of Armenia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Aznavour had been serving as Armenia's Ambassador to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization since 1995.

Mr. Aznavour is a well-known singer, composer and actor. He has long been actively engaged in worldwide events supporting Armenia, including by organizing dozens of concerts. After the 1988 earthquake in Armenia, he established the “Aznavour for Armenia” foundation, which has greatly contributed to the reconstruction of the earthquake area.

Mr. Aznavour has been awarded the Officer of the Legion d'Honneur of France (1997) and the National Hero of the Republic of Armenia (2004). Born in Paris on 22 May, 1924, Mr. Aznavour is married with four children.
