NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF UKRAINE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Mykola Maimeskul, the new Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Maimeskul had been serving as Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine since 2006. He was Ukraine’s Ambassador to Canada and Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the International Civil Aviation Organization in Montreal from 2004 to 2006.

Mr. Maimeskul served as Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Office at Geneva from 1996 to 2000, and as Second and then First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations Office at Geneva from 1986 to 1992.

A career diplomat, Mr. Maimeskul has held different posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, including Director-General of the Directorate of Consular Service from 2002 to 2003; Chief of the Interaction Coordination Group of the Ministry, the Parliament, the Cabinet of Ministers and regions of Ukraine from 2001 to 2002; Director-General of the Directorate of European Integration, Economic and Humanitarian Cooperation from 2000 to 2001; and Head of the International Economic Cooperation Department from 1992 to 1996.

Mr. Maimeskul graduated from Taras Shevchenko Kyiv State University in 1972. He also has a Ph.D. in international relations from the same university. He worked as an interpreter from 1972 to 1981. He was born in Odessa oblast, Ukraine and is married with one daughter.
