NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF LESOTHO PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
Mothae Anthony Maruping, the new Permanent Representative of Lesotho to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Maruping had been serving as the Executive Director of the Macro-Economic and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa since 1998. He was the Governor of the Central Bank of Lesotho from 1988 to 1998. From 1981 to 1986, he worked at the National University of Lesotho, first as a member of the University Council, then as Dean of the Faculty of Social Science and finally as Pro-Vice Chancellor.
Mr. Maruping started his career as a teacher in 1968 after obtaining his BA in economics from the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland a year earlier. He has an MA in economics from the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. (1971), and a PhD from the same University (1977). Mr. Maruping then went on to get an MBA from the University of Baltimore in Baltimore (1979).
As a student, Mr. Maruping won a number of honours and prizes for his outstanding work. He was also active on a number of committees and boards at the universities which he attended.
Born on 30 May, 1944 in Lesotho, Mr. Maruping is married with four children.
