CONFERENCE ON DISARMAMENT OPENS SECOND PART OF ITS 2019 SESSION
The Conference on Disarmament this morning opened the second part of its 2019 session. The meeting was held under the Presidency of the United States of America.
In an informal setting, the Conference discussed the question of nuclear deterrence, hearing from Brad Roberts, Director of the Center for Global Security Research at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the United States of America, and from William Alberque, Director of the Arms Control, Disarmament, and Weapons of Mass Destruction Non-Proliferation Centre at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
The Conference approved the request by Kirgizstan to participate as an observer in its 2019 session.
The President of the Conference, Ambassador Robert Wood of the United States, announced that the next plenary meeting of the Conference on Disarmament, to be held on Wednesday 22 May at 10.30 a.m., would address the issue of transparency.
