UN Geneva Press Briefing

Alessandra Vellucci, Director of the United Nations Information Service in Geneva, chaired the briefing, which was attended by the spokesperson for the World Health Organization.

Update on the International Labour Conference

Alessandra Vellucci, for the United Nations Information Service in Geneva, confirmed, on behalf of ILO, that Theresa May, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, was due to speak at the Conference at approximately 6.45 p.m. that day following her expected arrival at the Palais des Nations at 6.20 p.m. Journalists should contact the ILO press team or UNIS for further information.

Ms. Vellucci added that a note to correspondents concerning access to Press Room III and the Assembly Hall had been circulated earlier that morning. The UNIS team was on hand to provide further assistance in that regard.

WHO announcement

Tarik Jašareviæ, for the World Health Organization (WHO), said that a press conference would be held at 1 p.m. that day in Press Room I to present the latest WHO estimates on mental disorders in conflict-affected areas. The report, accompanying press release and other materials would be under embargo until 00.30 a.m. Geneva time, when a paper containing the findings would be published in The Lancet. The speakers would be Dr Mark van Ommeren, Coordinator, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse, WHO; Dr Fahmy Hanna, Technical Officer, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse, WHO; and Dr Jorge Castilla, Senior Emergency Officer, WHO.

Geneva announcement

Alessandra Vellucci, for the United Nations Information Service in Geneva, said that a press conference would be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, 11 June in Press Room I in connection with the publication of the World Investment Report 2019: Special Economic Zones. The speakers would be Mukhisa Kituyi, UNCTAD Secretary-General; and James Zhan, Director, Division on Investment and Enterprise, UNCTAD.

Alessandra Vellucci, for the United Nations Information Service in Geneva, also said that the President of the Conference on Disarmament, Ambassador Jorge Valero of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, would convene the next plenary meeting of the Conference on Disarmament on Wednesday, 12 June from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Council Chamber, with a substantive focus on agenda items 5, 6 and 7.
