Excellencies,
Ladies and gentlemen,
A warm welcome to the Palais des Nations for the opening of the Turkic Week in Geneva.
First of all, I would like to sincerely thank the Permanent Missions of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan and all their partners for organizing this wonderful exhibition which demonstrates the rich cultural heritage of the Turkic World.
This exhibition is part of a full program of events happening throughout International Geneva. It is an inspiring display of cooperation and solidarity among nations, which highlights the importance of nurturing strong, multi-stakeholder and inclusive partnerships.
It is particularly fitting that this cultural activity is taking place this week as we are celebrating the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace.
As we navigate an increasingly interconnected world, the importance of Turkic cultural diplomacy serves as a reminder of the power of culture to unite, inspire and transform societies.
The Turkic world is a testament to the diversity of the global cultural richness which includes a wealth of traditions and customs that have evolved over the centuries. From the vibrant Turkic languages to the haunting melodies of Uzbek folk songs, from the captivating patterns of Azeri carpets to the delicate filigree of Turkish jewelry, the Turkic world represents a rich cultural heritage that we need to preserve and promote.
Over the centuries, the Turkic peoples have forged strong connections. Cooperation within the Turkic World is characterized by a spirit of unity, partnership and mutual respect, grounded in shared values.
In these tumultuous times, when global mistrust and disruption are on the rise, we are in dire need to remember what unites us all. Cultural diplomacy is an essential tool at the disposal of the United Nations Organization and its members to strengthen international cooperation, build bridges of understanding and promote peace.
Finally, as we are approaching lunch time, it would be a mistake not to mention the famous Turkic cuisine, a stand-alone culinary ambassador uniting people all over the world.
Thank you for your attention and enjoy the exhibition.
This speech is part of a curated selection from various official events and is posted as prepared.
