“Collaboration agreement between UNOG and the Government of the Republic of Lithuania”

Ambassador Paulauskas
Mr. Kraujelis
Ladies and Gentlemen:

It is my pleasure to be here to sign the collaboration agreement between the United Nations Office at Geneva and the Government of the Republic of Lithuania for the digitization of League of Nations Archives.

The Library of the UN Office at Geneva is the largest in the United Nations system and the only one that is open to the public. It is the proud host of both UN archives and those of the League of Nations as well. The UNOG Library is also well-visited, with fifty-six thousand visitors last year.

While it is excellent that there is such widespread interest shown towards our Library and Archives in person, we all recognize that widest dissemination of knowledge is achieved through digitization.
Through this process, archival material is not only shared with the world, but is preserved for future generations.

This is why we are so thrilled to sign this agreement today and launch this collaboration project with the Lithuanian Government. We truly appreciate Lithuania’s interest and commitment to preserving our shared history. I hope that their initiative will be emulated by many other Member States in the future!

Thank you very much.
