DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG MEETS WITH PRIME MINISTER OF LITHUANIA

Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), today met with Gediminas Kirkilas, Prime Minister of Lithuania.

The Director-General and the Prime Minister discussed a wide range of issues including the activities of the Conference on Disarmament and the Human Rights Council as well as the role of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the expected impact of its new Annual Ministerial Review and Development Cooperation Forum. The Prime Minister stressed the importance attached by his Government to the role of intergovernmental institutions, and the United Nations in particular, in fostering dialogue and cooperation.

The Prime Minister thanked the Director-General for the assistance provided by UNOG to his country on the occasion of its presidency of ECOSOC, while the Director-General conveyed the United Nations’ appreciation for the steadfast support offered by the Government of Lithuania to the Organization
