DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG MEETS WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF MEMBERS OF ORGANIZATION OF ISLAMIC CONFERENCE

Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, today met with a group of Permanent Representatives of States which are members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). Forty-two of the 57 OIC Member States are represented in Geneva, where Ambassador Masood Khan of Pakistan chairs the OIC Group.

The Director-General and the Permanent Representatives discussed a range of subjects, in particular United Nations reform, including efforts to strengthen system-wide coherence and coordination, and the work of the Organization in the fields of climate change, economic and social development as well as peacekeeping and peacebuilding.

During the meeting, the Director-General and the Permanent Representatives also reviewed logistical issues more directly linked to the functioning of the United Nations Office at Geneva and the services that it provides to the diplomatic community.

The Director-General and Permanent Representatives stressed the importance of cooperation between the United Nations and the OIC and agreed that such meetings were very useful and should be held on a regular basis.
