DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG MEETS WITH PERMANENT SECRETARY OF MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF CYPRUS

Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, met today with Alexandros Zenon, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus.

The Director-General and the Permanent Secretary discussed a range of issues, in particular matters relating to the situation in Cyprus, and Mr. Zenon outlined his Government’s position in this regard. They also discussed last week’s removal by Greek Cypriots of a wall at the southern end of Ledra Street in Nicosia, along the so-called Green Line.

Mr. Ordzhonikidze underscored the efforts of the United Nations towards attaining a political solution to the Cyprus issue and reiterated the importance of reaching a timely and comprehensive settlement that respects all parties’ legitimate aspirations.
