UNOG DIRECTOR-GENERAL MEETS WITH SECRETARY-GENERAL OF ORGANIZATION OF THE ISLAMIC CONFERENCE

Sergei Ordzhonikidze, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, met with Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) on Tuesday, 13 March 2007.

The Director-General and the Secretary-General discussed cooperation between the United Nations and the OIC, noting that this collaboration had grown in recent years to include a wide range of concrete projects carried out with funds, programmes and specialized agencies.

During the meeting, the Director-General and the Secretary-General also reviewed issues of common concern, including the situation in the Middle East and Afghanistan. They discussed political, security and humanitarian developments in both areas and ways for the international community to facilitate progress in coming months.
