DIRECTOR-GENERAL MEETS WITH PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVES OF THE GROUP OF WESTERN EUROPEAN AND OTHER STATES

Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), met today with members of the Group of Western European and Other States for informal discussions on issues of mutual interest and concern, including the 2005 World Summit; the Secretary-General's ongoing reform efforts; security and safety at the Palais des Nations and other United Nations Secretariat entities in Geneva; the Geneva celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the United Nations, and UNOG's Cultural Activities Programme.

The delegates welcomed the exchange, which took place within the context of UNOG's regular dialogues with Member States and as part of the ongoing efforts to support and facilitate their work and enable a more efficient collaboration.

Similar meetings have taken place, or are being planned, with other regional groups.
